Butler VA to Celebrate Vietnam War Commemoration Day March 29

PRESS RELEASE

March 19, 2024

Butler , PA — Butler VA Health Care System will join the nation in recognizing Vietnam War Era Veterans and their families on March 29 for National Vietnam War Commemoration Day.

This day has been set aside in perpetuity for our Nation to thank and honor all Vietnam Veterans as designated by the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017.

In honor of the commemoration, Butler VA will be hosting several events on March 29:

Veteran Enrollment, Claims and Resource Fair – 11am – 2pm (EST)

Michael A Marzano VA Clinic, 295 North Kerrwood Drive, Suite 110, Hermitage PA (Mercer County)

  • All Veterans are invited to attend.  Vietnam Veterans attending the event will be presented with a commemorative Vietnam Veteran lapel pin. A Veteran Townhall is scheduled during the event at 12pm to discuss recent updates to the PACT Act

Vietnam War Era Veteran Recognition – 10am – 12pm (EST)

Abie Abraham VA Health Care Center, 353 North Duffy Road, Butler PA (Butler County)

  • Vietnam Veterans are invited to visit the Health Care Center to enjoy some light refreshments and receive a commemorative Vietnam Veteran lapel pin. The event is being held in collaboration with the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution-Butler Chapter.

Additionally, commemorative Vietnam Veteran lapel pins will be available at Butler VA’s community outpatient clinics located in Armstrong, Clarion, and Lawrence counties and Cranberry Township, Butler County, between the hours of 8am – 4pm the same day.

Vietnam Veterans served their country with valor and honor, yet never received a proper “Welcome Home” or “Thank you for your service”.  Since the establishment of the National Vietnam War Commemoration in 2012, nearly 4 million Vietnam Era Veterans who served between November 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, and their families, have been publicly thanked and honored.

“Thank you (Vietnam), Veterans and your families, for your service and sacrifices to this great nation,” comments Sharon Coyle.  “It is an honor for us at the Butler VA to serve you.”

On March 5, VA announced that all Veterans who were exposed to toxins and other hazards while serving in the military, home or abroad, are now eligible to enroll directly in VA health care. Veterans who served in the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Global War on Terror, or any other combat zone after 9/11 are eligible to enroll in VA health care without first applying for VA benefits. Veterans who never deployed but were exposed to toxins or hazards while training or on active duty in the United States are now eligible to enroll.  Learn how the PACT Act is helping Veterans and their survivors by visiting VA’s PACT Act Dashboard. To apply for care or benefits, visit VA.gov/PACT or call 1-800-MYVA411.

To be eligible to enroll in VA health care, Veterans must meet the minimum active-duty service requirements, have a qualifying discharge, and meet one or more eligibility requirements specific to VA health care.  VA encourages all Veterans to apply to determine their enrollment eligibility. More information on eligibility can be found at www.va.gov/health-care/eligibility or by calling Butler VA’s enrollment team at 800-362-8262.
