Columbus VA Transitions to New Electronic Health Record

Man with a smile
By Mark McCann, Public affairs officer

The VA Central Ohio Healthcare System transitioned to VA’s new electronic health record (EHR), April 30.

Columbus is the third VA to make this transition, following VA medical centers in Spokane and Walla Walla, Washington.

Here is important information to ensure veterans stay connected to their healthcare:

Veterans will now use My VA Health

Veterans who use the My HealtheVet patient portal no will use the new VA patient portal, My VA Health, to access records and prescriptions for their care at Columbus VA. To access the new portal, use any of these three accounts:  Premium DS Logon account; Premium My HealtheVet account; or a verified ID.me account. My VA Health requires an enabled multifactor authentication to log in.

Veterans who did not upgrade before April 30, or did not sign up at all, can go to the My HealtheVet update page and follow the instructions. For assistance, veterans can contact:

  • Columbus VA My VA Health help desk (M-F, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at 614-257-5444.
  • The national My VA Health support number at 888-444-MYVA or 888-444-6982. Online chat is available within My VA Health from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT (6 a.m. to 3 p.m. PT).

Veterans who do not use My HealtheVet / do not use a computer

Veterans who do not use My HealtheVet, or do not have access to or use a computer, are not required to use the new patient portal. They can still schedule appointments or contact provider teams by telephone, and refill and renew prescriptions by calling the automated refill line at 614-257-5230 or mailing in a refill slip. Veteran access to their health care will not change.

Confirm personal contact information

Veterans are encouraged to check contact information, mailing address, phone number, and email when logging in to the new patient portal. They also may check their profile at www.va.gov/profile/personal-information.

Third-party insurance

Veterans should bring their third-party insurance card to their next appointment with a provider at Columbus VA to ensure the correct information is on file.

My VA Health Training Event

Veterans who want to learn more about the new My VA Health patient portal can attend a training event on Wed., May 4, from 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, 300 W. Broad St., in Columbus. Registration is not required. Computers will be available for use or veterans can bring their own.

Help also is available Mon. – Fri., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the My VA Health area on the first floor of the Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Clinic (next to the Canteen Store) or by calling the help desk at 614-257-5444. No appointment required.
