Ivan Correa, MD, CMD has been selected as the Chief of Staff for the VA Central Western Massachusetts Health Care System (VACWM), effective September 2022.
Dr. Ivan Correa is board certified Family, Geriatric and Hospice and Palliative Medicine as well as a Certified Medical Director. Prior to joining Central Western Massachusetts VA Health Care System, he was Chief of Staff at the Atlanta VA Health Care System. He has had academic appointments as Geriatric and Hospice and Palliative Medicine Clinical Assistant Professor at Emory University, the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine, and University of New Mexico School of Medicine.
His leadership style is strong in building relationships, listening and collaborating with others. Dr. Correa started his science career as a research microbiologist. He worked for the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Defense as an environmental scientist for almost 10 years before going back to medical school. He holds a bachelor’s degree of science from the University of Puerto Rico, started medical school at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara and finished his medical education at New York Medical College in Valhalla New York. He completed his graduate medical education at the Advent Health System in Orlando Florida (formerly Florida Hospital Orlando). Dr. Correa’s research interest is in caregiver burden in dementia and has great passion for symptom management in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, end of life care and prevention of polypharmacy in the elderly.
