Jesse Brown VAMC to conduct an Active Shooter Drill at Adam Benjamin Jr. Outpatient Clinic in Crown Point, Indiana

Crown Point , IN — Sept. 16, 2023 - The Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) will conduct an active shooter drill at the Adam Benjamin Jr. Outpatient Clinic in Crown Point, Indiana.

The drill will be held on Sept. 16. 2023 is aimed to enhance preparedness and response capabilities in the event of an active shooter situation. THIS EXERCISE IS NOT OPEN TO MEDIA OR THE PUBLIC. 

The safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors are of paramount importance to the Jesse Brown VAMC. These drills serve as an opportunity to evaluate and strengthen emergency response procedures, ensuring that the medical center is equipped to handle any potential threats effectively.

During the drill, staff members at the Adam Benjamin Jr. Outpatient Clinic and the Jesse Brown VAMC will actively participate in simulated scenarios to test response capabilities. This exercise includes realistic scenarios of an active shooter situation and provides an opportunity for personnel to practice emergency protocols, communication, and coordination.

The Jesse Brown VAMC will collaborate with local law enforcement agencies including the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Crown Point Police Department, emergency medical services and Lake County Coroner’s Office to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated response. These partnerships are vital in fostering a unified approach to emergency situations and maintaining the safety of all individuals on the premises.

There will be an increased presence of police and other first responders in the area from approximately 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The sheriff’s department plans to involve Tactical, Aviation, and Drone Units, plus its Patrol Division in the drill.  The public will likely see equipment and personnel from these units gathered in the area.

Meticulous planning went into the active shooter drill at the Adam Benjamin Jr. Outpatient Clinic. The drill aims to identify areas of improvement, enhance response times, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing security measures.
