Clifford A. Smith, Ph.D., has been selected for a detail as the Acting Director, Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, effective September 30, 2023.

Dr. Smith was named Director of Analytics, Innovation, and Collaborations in the VHA Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in 2018. In this role, he directs the planning, development, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of VHA mental health and suicide prevention.  He began his VA career in 2008 as the Chief of the Behavioral Health Service at Oscar G. Johnson VAMC in Iron Mountain, Michigan, and has a wide range of VA experience, including Deputy Director of VHA Mental Health Operations and Associate Director at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, where he oversaw the daily administrative operations of a Level 3 medical center including fiscal, human resources, police, engineering, voluntary service, nutrition, environmental service, patient administration, and privacy. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), and is board certified in the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology subspecialty (ABCN).

Dr. Smith holds a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and master’s degrees in Clinical Psychology and Systematic Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College, and a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Evangel College.
