Susan Mickey

Ms. Mickey has served the Dayton VA Medical Center as the Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services since February, 2023, providing executive oversight of clinical operations in Acute Care, Community Living Center, Mental Health, and Surgical/Procedural Care.

Ms. Mickey began her VA nursing career in 2006 as a staff RN, and then transitioned to various roles in Quality Management, Bed Flow, and Nursing Operations. Ms. Mickey joined Patient Business Service in 2017 as the Nurse Manager/Section Chief of VA Community Care. 

In 2021, Ms. Mickey became Chief Nurse of Integrated Access Service, where she converged internal VA clinical services with the Community Care program. This new Service provided an unprecedented approach to improve access aiming to keep patients in VA while empowering Veterans with more health care options under the VA MISSION Act.

Ms. Mickey received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Management from Western Governors University. 

Ms. Mickey is a Cincinnati, Ohio native, and in her free time she enjoys cooking, yoga, and traveling with her family.
