Veteran getting birthday cards

"Ten thousand cards. It has been huge. All 50 states. Finland, France, Canada. It is just great to see everyone get behind this," said Meyers' grandson, Dan Smith.

WLWT -- A birthday wish came true for a 100-year-old World War II Veteran from Ohio.

According to NBC affiliate WKYC, Harold Meyers wanted 100 cards for his big birthday and, in the end, he received more than 10,000 birthday cards from all over the world. Last month, Meyers and his grandson, Dan, put out a call hoping to receive 100 birthday cards to celebrate Meyers' milestone year.

On his June 8 birthday, the cards far exceeded his expectations.

"Ten thousand cards. It has been huge. All 50 states. Finland, France, Canada. It is just great to see everyone get behind this," said Meyers' grandson, Dan Smith.

Meyers' wife, Margaret, thinks it was his time serving during World War II that struck a chord with so many. Various cards included notes of "thank you for your many sacrifices."

When asked the secret to living to 100 years old, Meyers said there's no secret.
