Centers of Excellence

VA Detroit is proud of the excellence care our many health care services offer to our Veterans and want to highlight recognition of our quality and service in several specialty services.

Fisher House

VA Detroit's Fisher House provides high quality, temporary lodging to families and caregivers of Veterans and active duty servicemembers who are undergoing an episode of care at the VA Detroit Healthcare System Medical Center or in conjunction with a Veterans Health Administration (VHA) authorized hospital stay in the local community.

Fitness Center

VA Detroit's Fitness Center offers monthly classes and a dedicated staff to help Veterans, employees and others reach their physical fitness goals.

Former Prisoners of War Program

Who Are Former Prisoners of War? Since World War I, more than 142,000 Americans, including 85 women, have been captured and interned as POWs. Not included in this figure are nearly 93,000 Americans who were lost or never recovered. Only one fifth of America's former POWs since World War I are still living (about 22,641). More than 90% of living former POWs were captured and interned during World War II. About 15,367 former POWs are in receipt of compensation for service-connected injuries, diseases, or illnesses.

Medical Foster Homes

The Medical Foster Home Program (MFH) is a voluntary program that offers safe, long-term care in a home setting. MFH is affordable care and is a great alternative to institutional care.
