Anna L. Rutherford, MD, was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Durham VA Health Care System in Durham, North Carolina on 14 Jan 2024.
She was appointed as the Interim Deputy Chief of Staff in October 2023.
Prior to that, she served as the Medical Director for the 1D Primary Care Clinic.
Before joining the Durham VA Health Care System in 2018, Dr. Rutherford served as a physician in the United States Navy.
She received her MD degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her residency training was at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Florida. She is board certified in Family Medicine.
As the third generation of her family to serve in the United States Navy, Dr. Rutherford developed a strong commitment to serving our country. She considers service to Veterans to be a privilege and honor.
