Greenville VA Health Care Center Celebrates 10 Years of Serving Veterans
Employees, Veterans, and their caregivers gathered to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of the Greenville VA Health Care Center. Leaders hosted a Veteran resource fair and held a small celebration to commemorate the milestone.
“A decade ago, we opened the doors to this ‘intelligently designed, state-of-the-art facility’ to honor our commitment to our Nation’s Veterans,” said Sarah Fredrickson, Assistant Director for the Durham VA Health Care System and Administrator for the Greenville VA HCC. “Now, we continue to provide high-quality, safe care and services to thousands of Veterans each year.”
The ceremony recognized approximately 20 employees who have provided care to Veteran patients since opening ten years ago. Dr. Dee Dinsdale, Chief Nurse for the Greenville VA HCC, was among the celebrated employees.
“It's the people, the staff... they astound me with the care they provide to our Veterans,” said Dinsdale. “Our staff are committed to providing the best possible care to our Veteran patients and their hard work and dedication have been instrumental in the success of our health care system.”
Dalonia Clemons, Interim Chief for Health Administration Services, has also worked for the health care center since they opened their doors.
“My favorite part of working here is providing service to Veterans. My husband is a Veteran, my dad and stepdad are Veterans,” said Clemons. “To be able to come to work every day and serve Veterans, I just count it as a blessing.”
The health care center offers a range of medical services, including primary care, mental health care, women’s health care, and specialty care. They also provide a variety of support services, such as nutrition counseling, pharmacy services, and radiology. In 2022, the HCC partnered with Veterans Benefits Administration to provide, in-house, virtual appointments for Veterans. In 2023, a Veggies for Vets Garden was planted in the rear of the facility to help stock a food pantry for Veterans.
“We’re designed to meet the unique needs of Veterans,” said Fredrickson.
“I’ve always had good service at the VA,” said Army Veteran Carlton Ray Houston. “They will call you; they’ll send you a text, and then send you a letter. The communication is very good. Once you get into [VA health care], you’ll know you’ll like it.”
As part of the resource fair for Veterans, information about the PACT Act and newly expanded eligibilities were shared. Veterans who aren’t enrolled in Veterans Health Care are encouraged to call the Durham VA Health Care System at (919) 286-0411 and ask to speak with an enrollment specialist or visit www.va.gov/PACT for more information.
