The Durham VA Health Care System proudly revealed its first lactation pod for breastfeeding and pumping Veterans and staff.

For many mothers, the journey of breastfeeding can be both joyous and challenging. Having a safe, comfortable, private space to breastfeed or pump can help address those challenges. Queue the newly installed lactation at the Greenville VA Health Care Center. Located on the second floor near the Outpatient Surgery department, this lactation pod provides a dedicated space for breastfeeding or pumping milk.

“We recognized the need for a lactation pod to enhance accessibility and support for our female Veterans and staff.” said Sarah Fredrickson, Assistant Director for the Durham VA Health Care System and Administrator for the Greenville VA HCC. “This resource supports working Veterans and employees, removing the logistics of how or where to breastfeed pump.”

Equipped with spacious seating, optimal lighting, ample counter space, and convenient USB ports and power outlets, the pod is designed to prioritize comfort and functionality. The pod ensures privacy with its automatic locking mechanism upon entry, safeguarding the confidentiality of nursing or pumping mothers. An access code is provided to nursing mothers to gain entry, ensuring ease of use and accessibility.

” We proudly unveiled our latest addition in March 2024,” said Fredrickson. “This exciting enhancement symbolizes our unwavering commitment to meeting the unique needs of our Veterans and ensuring an inclusive, welcoming environment for all.”
