Erie VA Medical Center Seeks Volunteer Drivers

PRESS RELEASE

April 18, 2023

Franklin , PA — Erie VA Medical Center announces a critical need for volunteer drivers in Venango County.

Many disabled Veterans live on small, fixed incomes, often many miles from the nearest VA medical hospital or clinic. The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Volunteer Transportation Network (VTN) Program is a courtesy service providing free transportation to and from VA medical appointments for Veterans who have no other means of transportation.

The Erie VAMC seeks a minimum of three drivers to continue service to Veterans in and around Franklin PA and the Venango County region. “Our Veterans need your help, and we are ready to train and onboard helping hands,” said Karen O’Neal – Chief of the Erie VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE).

The DAV transportation program is completely operated by volunteers – operating daily, providing local service and rides to or from other VA facilities including Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Buffalo.

“No individual who has served our country or sacrificed their good health should be denied or postpone medical care due to lack of transportation,” added O’Neal.

If you know anyone who would like to be a volunteer driver in the VTN for Venango County, please call the Erie VAMC CDCE at 814-860-2024 to learn more about the requirements and process.
