Million Veteran Program Returns to Erie

PRESS RELEASE

May 15, 2023

Erie , PA — Erie VA Medical Center proudly announces the return of VA’s Million Veteran Program (MVP) to campus this week.

Erie VAMC and the Million Veteran Program (MVP) invite Veterans across northwestern Pennsylvania to participate in the largest health and genomic information database, with more than 950,000 U.S. Veterans included. MVP links genetic, clinical, lifestyle, and military experiences to help researchers learn about the role of genes in health and disease.

Enrollment is quick, easy, and voluntary. Veterans do not have to be enrolled in VA health care to participate in MVP. All data is coded, kept private, and secure.

Research findings based on MVP may lead to new ways of preventing and treating illnesses in Veterans and all Americans. Such findings may help answer questions like “Why does a treatment work well for some Veterans but not others?”; “Why are some Veterans at a greater risk for developing an illness?”; and “How can we prevent certain illnesses in the first place?”

VA Pittsburgh’s MVP team will visit the Erie VA Medical Center on:

Wednesday, May 17, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Location: Mobile Vet Center, Northeast Parking Lot
