For 26 years, employees and volunteers at the OGJVAMC have come together to provide toys, gifts, clothing and gift cards making the holidays brighter for local families in need.

Families were identified through the school guidance counselor offices at five local schools. Fifteen VA departments adopted one or more families, with employees purchasing gifts based on the wish list of each family member.

“This program is very important to me, carrying on the mission of nourishing people’s lives. It warms my heart to know that we are helping to do good for the children and families in our community,” said Kalee Cayemberg, this year’s co-coordinator.

Gifts were delivered to the schools before Christmas break and were distributed to the families. The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center has sponsored the holiday season Adopt-a-Family program since 1996, providing gifts to 190 local families.
