Susquehanna American Legion Auxiliary Unit 135 Donates $9,000 To Support Veteran Patients Throughout Maryland

Baltimore , MD — The Susquehanna American Legion Auxiliary Unit 135 recently donated $9,000 to the Veterans Affairs (VA) Maryland Health Care System to benefit veteran patients throughout the state.

The donation will be used to send patients who receive their care from the VA Maryland Health Care System to the VA National Games, which is a therapeutic activity that demonstrates the value of sports, wellness, and fitness in assisting veterans live an active and healthy lifestyle. The National Games includes the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, the National Veterans Golden Age Games, the National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, and the National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic. Currently, a team of eight veteran patients from the VA Maryland Health Care System are in Des Moines, Iowa, competing in the VA National Golden Age Games thanks to donor support from generous community members and organizations.

“The support from the Susquehanna American Legion Auxiliary Unit 135 makes it possible for us to enhance the programs and services we provide to Maryland’s veterans,” said Jonathan R. Eckman, director of the VA Maryland Health Care System. “It also sends an important message to our veteran patients that their service in the armed forces has not been forgotten.”
