Ribbon cut for new VA outpatient clinic in Oconomowoc

PRESS RELEASE

March 11, 2024

Oconomowoc , WI — A ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, March 8, signaled the coming of a new community-based outpatient clinic in Oconomowoc.

The new 8,500-square-foot facility at 1289 Olympia Fields Drive is part of the Milwaukee VA Health Care System. It is located in an area with 10,000 Veterans, 5,500 of whom are eligible for VA care.

“Our staff is all about doing the right thing for Veterans, and that’s why we’re here — because it’s the right thing to do,” said Jim McLain, executive director of the Milwaukee VA, said during the ceremony.

“Our dedication is to serving our Veterans — those who stand up and serve and defend our country,” he said. “We’re able to sleep at night and feel safe because of the individuals who are standing watch in foreign lands. And we’re here to ensure that when they come back, they’re cared for. Our mission never ends.”

The ceremony included remarks by:

  • Stewart Wangard, executive chairman of Wangard Partners.
  • Oconomowoc Mayor Robert Magnus
  • Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow
  • State Rep. Barbara Dittrich
  • State Sen. John Jagler
  • Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary-designee James Bond

This is the Milwaukee VA’s fifth outpatient clinic serving Veterans in eastern Wisconsin. Along with medical center in Milwaukee, there are clinics in Green Bay, Appleton, Cleveland and Union Grove.

Ground was broken for the facility in May. The project began about two years ago and has been moving at a brisk pace since, headed by developer Wangard Partners. PRA (Plunkett Raysich Architects LLP) is the architect and Kraus-Anderson Construction Company is the construction manager on the project.
