Omaha VAMC Nurse honored for going “Above and Beyond” to care for Veterans

Daisy Award Winner
Kevin Pruitt, MSN, RN at the Omaha VAMC receives his award from Tysa Ferguson, Associate Director for Patient Care & Nurse Executive at VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System.

OMAHA, Neb. – Please join us in congratulating Kevin Pruitt, MSN, RN, at the Omaha VA Medical Center, who was honored earlier this week with VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System’s Daisy Award.

Pruitt is a registered nurse serving in the Omaha VAMC’s psychiatric intensive care unit. He was nominated by a fellow employee, who noted the work that Pruitt had taken on recently while caring for a Veteran.

“Kevin went above and beyond, showing care and compassion and true dedication helping the Veteran,” the VA co-worker wrote in Pruitt’s award nomination. “(He showed) the value of trust and rapport between RNs and people who they’re caring for.”

“I take great pride in calling Kevin a co-worker, mentor and, above all, a friend,” the nomination reads. “My time working… with nurses like Kevin through his leadership, patience and stoicism make me strive to emulate the best possible way to practice nursing.”

Sponsored by the Daisy Foundation, the Daisy award is a recognition program designed to celebrate and recognize nurses by collecting nominations from patients, families and co-workers.

Pruitt was recognized on Tuesday, Sept. 12, when Dr. Tysa Ferguson, VA NWIHCS associate director for Patient Care, and several VA NWIHCS nursing leaders presented him with his award and several other recognition items.
