Paul Sklena MD, MBA

The New Mexico VA Health Care System welcomes Dr. Paul Sklena  to serve as our Interim COS effective August 27, 2023-October 7, 2023.  

Prior to this detail, Dr. Sklena was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Robley Rex VA Medical Center (Louisville, KY) in October 2021.

Dr. Sklena is a graduate of the University of Chicago earning his Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine degree in 1991 and 1995, respectively. He completed an Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Combined Residency Program in 1999 at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Sklena has 10 years of continuous service to our nation’s Veterans. Previously, he was the Chief of Primary Care at the Charlie Norwood VAMC in Augusta, GA. Dr. Sklena also served at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center beginning in 2001 in various capacities including Section Chief for Primary Care,  emergency room provider, and preceptor for 3rd-year medical students during their internal medicine clerkship and PACT Provider. Prior to joining the Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Sklena had 17 years of experience working in community health centers in both leadership and primary care provider roles.
