Supporting Maui Veterans

HONOLULU, HAWAII – The news of the wildfires on Maui has been devastating. VA Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS) is helping all Maui Veterans affected by this tragedy in every way that we can. VA has created a resource page for Veterans affected by the devastating wildfires in Maui. Veterans who need assistance can also call 1-800-214-1306 to speak with someone about resources that are available to them.

Veterans on Maui can go to any of these locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

• Napilli Plaza address: 5095 Napilihau St, Lahaina, HI 96761

• War Memorial, 700 Halia Nakoa St, Wailuku, HI 96793

• Lahaina Gateway, 325 Keawe St, Lahaina, HI 96761

Each of the shelters above will have Mental Health Services, Nursing Services, Pharmacy Services, Social Work Services, and Homeless Program Services  available from VAPIHCS. Donated items will be distributed as they become available.

“All of our Aloha is with the people of Maui in this difficult time, said Dr. Adam Robinson, director VAPIHCS, “We want all our Maui Veterans to know the VA is here to support them.”

We are also collecting donations for those affected by the fires. The collection point is Spark Matsunaga Ambulatory Care Center (ACC). Some recommended donation items are toiletry items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, toilet paper, disposable razors, and hair ties. Nonperishable food items and water are also appreciated. In addition, you may want to donate cell phone chargers, blankets and pillows, clothing, prepaid phones, or shoes.

Many people lost everything in this tragedy, and VA is committed to helping them through this difficult time in every way possible. If you have questions about other ways you can help, please contact our Chief of the Center for Development and Civic Engagement Schoen Safotu at (808) 433-7725 or email him at schoen.safotu@va.gov.
