Officer Daniel Burgdoff has come a long way in his career and is undeniably one of the many employee success stories at the Salisbury VA Health Care System.

“Every single officer that works here should get Officer of the Year because every single officer that works here works their tail off,” said Officer Burgdoff of his Salisbury VA law enforcement colleagues.

With his friendly disposition, steadfast work ethic, and upbeat personality, it’s not hard to see why Officer Burgdoff was chosen as the 2022 Salisbury VA Health Care System Officer of the Year.

He began his VA career here in Salisbury as a part-time transportation security officer in January 2020.

This position allowed Officer Burgdoff, a U.S. Army Veteran, to connect with other Veterans as he picked them up and dropped them off at their health care appointments in Charlotte and Kernersville.

“I really enjoy being around fellow Vets. The camaraderie was the biggest thing I loved about being in the military. I come to work, and my guys are everywhere [laughs],” said  Officer Burgdoff.

The opportunity to build relationships with fellow Veterans set Officer Burgdoff on a new path as he soon discovered he wanted to serve the Salisbury VA in a bigger capacity.

The chance soon came his way as Salisbury VA Police leadership recognized the positive impact Officer Burgdoff had on his fellow Veterans. Soon, he was well on his way to becoming a sworn VA police officer.

With no previous law enforcement experience, Officer Burgdoff threw himself into learning as much as he could from his colleagues before finally earning the title of VA Police Officer.

A year and a half after becoming a sworn officer, he still considers himself a rookie as he continues to learn from his fellow officers.

Officer Burgdoff enjoys the work-life balance that now comes with his position. The married father of two is a proud family man who is deeply devoted to his loved ones.

Hailing from a military family, Officer Burgdoff has lived in Germany, New York, and California.

Thank you for your service, and congratulations Officer Burgdoff!
