The VA Sioux Falls health care adaptive sports program is intended to provide structured programming for Veterans with physical or mental health challenges that limit their independent participation in sports.

A multidisciplinary approach is used to provide Adaptive Sports evaluations and treatments. Adaptive Sports events include, but are not limited to, Ski for Light, National Veterans Wheelchair Games, National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, National Veteran Golden Age Games, National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic, National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic, and the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival. The purpose of programming is to facilitate Veteran health, independence, well-being, and quality of life through adaptive sports engagement.

Veterans must be able to independently complete activities of daily living (ADL) or bring an approved caregiver to assist with ADLs. Caregivers’ assistance approval must be included in the Adaptive Sports consult describing how their participation is integral for Veteran’s successfully participation.

Veterans are responsible for transportation to and from local adaptive sports events.
