The South Texas Veterans Health Care System received a special donation from the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) non-profit organization.

“We are extremely thankful for the continuous support that DAV Chapter 14 provides to us.” Jason Gray, Chief of the Center Development and Civic Engagement said.

The DAV Chapter 14, from Helotes, Texas donated a fully electric shuttle bus to assist Veterans in getting to and from the parking lot at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital. “I am really proud to be able to do this for the South Texas VA hospital and I hope in the future, there are more things we can do to help.” Mr. Leon Collins, Commander DAV Chapter 14 said while providing brief remarks amongst DAV representatives and South Texas VA Leadership.

The six-passenger shuttle bus is enclosed and provides A/C and heat, which is a plus for the Texas summer and winter months. Shane Soto, Associate Medical Center Director for Resources for STVHCS was very appreciative of the DAV’s efforts and collaboration. “This brings warmth to my heart witnessing what we are able and capable of doing for our Veterans through this partnership”, he said joyfully.

Those in attendance for the dedication ceremony eagerly rode around in the shuttle expressing how exciting and smooth the ride was. South Texas Veterans Health Care System appreciates the donation of its first fully electric bus that will provide safe and reliable transportation for Veterans who require assistance being transported anywhere within our Audie L. Murphy grounds; especially Veterans who have undergone some form of medical treatment requiring assistance with transportation needs.
