New Director Selected for Syracuse VA Medical Center

Syracuse , NY — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Mark Murdock, MHA, FACHE as Executive Director of the Syracuse VA Medical Center effective on July 30.

Murdock will oversee delivery of health care services to more than 50,000 Veterans and an operating budget of more than $300 million.

“We are excited to bring Mr. Murdock on board as the new Executive Director of the Syracuse VA Medical Center,” said Dr. Joan E. McInerney, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 2 Director.  “His sound leadership qualities and proven experience will be valuable assets for the facility, the employees and volunteers, and most importantly, for the Veterans we are honored to serve.”

 

Mr. Murdock is a board-certified health care executive with over 38 years of progressive health care experience who has held positions of increasing responsibility at the clinic, Medical Center, and regional levels. He comes to the Syracuse VAMC from the Dayton, Ohio VA Medical Center. 

 

The Syracuse VA Medical Center is part of the VA New York/New Jersey Healthcare Network, which consists of 10 VA medical centers in New York and New Jersey, and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics in those states. 

 

With 1,700 staff, the Syracuse VA Medical Center is a 189-bed general medical and surgical facility, 30 of which are dedicated to the Spinal Cord Injury unit.  It also comprises a 48-bed Community Living Center and provides comprehensive Primary and Mental health care. The medical center operates seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics geographically dispersed throughout 13-counties in Central New York.  These areas include Auburn, Binghamton, Potsdam, Oswego, Rome, Tompkins/Ithaca/Cortland and Watertown.
