Summer Vet Fest Connects Veterans With VA and Community Resources
James A. Haley Veterans Hospital held a Summer Vet Fest at VFW Post 8681 on Saturday, June 22, 2024 for Veterans, current service members and their families.
The event provided resources pertaining to the recent PACT Act Benefits expansion, caregiver support and enrolling into VA health care.
Thirty attendees of the event were able to ask claims and benefits questions to the Veterans Service Officer.
“Meeting Veterans in their communities is key to building relationships within the VA,” said Donald Freyberger, JAHVH outreach coordinator. “Events like these engage Veterans that live in rural areas, so they do not feel overlooked or forgotten.”
Section Chief of Compensation and Pension Dr. Michael Breglia, and Assistant Chief, and Compensation and Pension Physician Assistant Kenneth Brodie assisted attendees with Toxic Exposure Screenings and information about the PACT Act, while Enrollment and Eligibility officials distributed resource-filled pamphlets and answered questions. Veterans’ Benefits Administration Claims representatives helped Veterans begin the process of enrolling in a smoothly running one-stop shop.
Five Veterans enrolled in VA care, while 22 claims were started and six Veterans received TES screenings.
