Hundreds of Hoosier Veterans Screened For Toxic Exposure

Toxic exposure screening

Veteran Health Indiana (VHI) hosted a Veterans benefits and resource fair at the Marion County Fairgrounds, on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors attended briefings on the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2022 – known as the PACT Act. The new law expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances.

“Hundreds of Veterans were able to come out and either get screened or begin the application process for VA benefits.,” said Mark Turney, Veteran Health Indiana Public Affairs Officer. “We are planning more screening and benefits events in dozens of communities around the state.”

Veterans can file claims for dozens of respiratory illnesses and cancers if they have a diagnosis and served in one of the areas where toxins were present. Find the full list and more at www.va.gov/pact
