Lebanon VA Medical Center Doctor awarded 2022 Teacher of the Year Award

Lebanon , PA — U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Lebanon VA Medical Center (VAMC) Hospitalist, Benny Bhaskar, MD, was awarded the 2022 Medicine Clerkship Teacher of the Year Award for Affiliate Faculty in the Medicine Category from the Penn State University (PSU) College of Medicine.

Eileen M. Moser, MD, Associate Dean for Medical Education at Penn State College of Medicine recognized Dr. Bhaskar along with faculty from other medical centers who received the Teacher of the Year Award at the PSU Annual Clinical Education Partnership meeting (formerly the Affiliate Site Meeting) on Feb. 28, held at the University Conference Center on the Hershey Medical Center campus. This award is given based on student evaluations and acknowledges teaching staff who are dedicated to the training and advanced development of medical students.

Many of Dr. Bhaskar’s students have described him as a genuine person, a team-oriented physician and an excellent teacher. “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my students, who have inspired me to continue pushing the boundaries of my teaching abilities.” Dr. Bhaskar said regarding this award, “Their enthusiasm and passion for learning are the driving force behind my teaching. I am proud to be a part of two exceptional institutions, the VA and PSU. I will continue to strive for excellence in everything that I do.”

Lebanon VAMC maintains a robust partnership with the Penn State College of Medicine and Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and serves as a leader and innovator in health professions education providing inter-professional education and training for medical students, physician assistant students and residents. Since the 2016 expansion of the program, Lebanon VAMC trained approximately 835 doctors, 266 medical students and 97 physician assistants from the Penn State College of Medicine. The VA Healthcare System plays a vital role in training the nation’s doctors, since approximately 70% of all U.S. physicians complete at least part of their training in VA facilities.
