Food and Drink 

  • Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) Patriot Cafe' serves hot breakfast and lunch items, fresh salads, sandwiches and more. VCS Canteen Services are non-profit and all proceeds benefit the Veterans.
    • Open Monday - Friday, excluding Holidays; closed weekends.
    • Grill and hot food line is open 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
    • Grab-and-go cold and hot cases are available 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • VCS Patriot Brew (Starbucks) in the lobby of our main building features Starbucks-brand coffee and drink selections,  along with a variety of snack items provided by VCS Patriot Cafe'. 
    • Open 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, excluding Holidays; closed weekends.

  • VCS Patriot Store offers electronics, military items, home health care products, personal care, clothing, gift items and men's and women's accessories.

Van services for Veterans

We work with Disabled American Veterans and county Veterans Affairs directors to provide transportation for Veterans and authorized caregivers to get to scheduled medical appointments.

Beneficiary travel

Beneficiary travel benefits include round-trip transportation from your home to the medical center, mileage reimbursement, or special mode transport.

The Traveling Veteran Program assists Veterans enrolled in the VA health care system in coordinating care at another facility while on extended travel.

The Traveling Veteran RN Coordinator will work with your Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) prior to your travel to ensure that you receive consistent, uninterrupted care. This assistance includes helping Veterans who may need to be seen at another facility temporarily while traveling, or for Veterans who need help registering at a new location because they are moving.

Hours

Lobby entrance:  24 hours a day, 7 days a week

General visiting:  Visitation is temporarily limited to family members and designated caregivers of Veterans who are gravely ill or in hospice or palliative care.

Screening:  All visitors are being screened when they enter the lobby of the main building. Please be patient with our screeners and practice social distancing when waiting in line:

  • Masks are required.
  • Stay six feet from others.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes.
  • Clean your hands frequently – wash with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.

Behavioral health inpatient wards

Not permitted at this time.

Critical care

Visiting hours are individualized to meet the needs of the patient, family, and caregivers.

Post-anesthesia recovery

Generally, visitors are not permitted. The doctor or nurse may make an exception.

  • Wear a mask - Masks are required at this VA Health Facility

  • Visit one resident only - Do not visit multiple people in this visit.
  • One visitor per patient at a time.

Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane has a Police Service.  Our officers provide 24-hour patrols of the facility and parking lots. For general police assistance, please dial .  Report all suspicious or criminal activity, vehicle accidents, and personal property losses to the VA Police while on the facility grounds as soon as possible.  

Because the VA Medical Center is Federal property, all persons and bags are subject to search.  In addition, no weapons, alcohol, or illegal drugs are permitted.

We diagnose and treat conditions affecting your hearing, speech or balance. These include hearing loss, tinnitus (noise or ringing the ears) & dizziness—also speech, language, voice or swallowing disorders.

Our Audiology and Speech Pathology clinic provides diagnostic and rehabilitative services, and screening for employee hearing conservation. We offer a full range of audiology and speech pathology services like:

  • Comprehensive hearing  evaluations
  • Evaluation and treatment of tinnitus
  • Services that help with speech, language, fluency, voice, cognitive communication, swallowing, stuttering, and laryngectomy

We perform noninvasive and minimally invasive tests and procedures that check, support, and improve your heart health. We'll work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan and treat you with the most effective medications. Our services include:

  • Evaluating you for coronary heart disease, heart-valve disease, and heart defects
  • Determining how well blood flows through your heart vessels or find the cause of your heart failure
  • Treating your heart vessels with nonsurgical or minimally invasive operations that open and support them through balloon angioplasty or stent placement
  • Noninvasively monitoring you for changes in heart rhythm, using electrocardiograms (EKGs or ECGs), portable Holt monitors, or ultrasound

Doctors in our intensive care units (ICUs) treat patients with serious illnesses or injuries, such as life-threatening infections, severe burns, brain injuries, and organ failure. Our critical care doctors (called intensivists) and nurses provide you with a full range of services, like:

  • Monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing with cardiac and oxygen telemetry
  • Help your lungs work using a mechanical ventilator
  • Provide nutrition through a feeding tube in your vein, nose or mouth
  • Drain urine from your bladder using a catheter
  • Give fluids and medicine through your vein using an IV pump
  • Help prevent blood clots in your legs by using inflatable compression wraps and boots

We diagnose and treat medical conditions in your esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon, and other parts of your digestive system. We can also test and treat other organs, like your liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. Our gastroenterology department provides services like:

  • Colonoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), which use an endoscope (a long, flexible tube with a small camera on the end) that lets us examine your digestive system
  • Endoscopic ultrasound, which uses high-frequency sound waves to create images that help us diagnose and evaluate digestive and lung diseases
  • Manometry study, which tests how well your esophagus is working
  • Small bowel capsule endoscopy, which uses a tiny wireless camera that takes pictures as it moves through your digestive system
  • 24-hour pH study, which measures how much stomach acid is flowing into your esophagus and helps us assess conditions like severe heartburn and acid reflux

Peer Support

Peer Support is a system of giving and receiving help founded on key principles of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual agreement of what is helpful; it is a process dedicated to promoting empowerment and self-determination in the service of recovery.

What is a Peer Support Specialist?
A Peer Support Specialist is a person with a mental health and /or co-occurring disorder, who has been trained to help others with these disorders, to identify and achieve specific life and recovery goals. A Peer Support Specialist is actively engaged in his/her own recovery, and volunteers or is hired to provide Peer Support services to others engaged in mental health treatment.

What is the purpose of a Peer Support Program? 
     •  To provide opportunities for Veterans to take control of their own recovery
     •  To teach and support the learning of skills needed to facilitate one's recovery
     •  To make Veterans aware of available services and choices
     •  To help Veterans develop a sense of wellness and self-worth
     •  To bring a unique perspective to the treatment teams on which they work

What do trained Peer Support Specialists do? 
     •  They serve as role models by sharing their personal recovery stories, showing that recovery from mental illness is possible.
     •  They teach goal setting, problem solving, symptom management skills and a variety of recovery tools.
     •  They empower by helping others identify their strengths, supports, resources and skills.
     •  They advocate by working to eliminate the stigma of mental illness.
     •  They act as community liaisons by identifying social support within the community and encouraging the expansion of local community resources.

Remote Patient Monitoring- Home Telehealth

  • A unique service that provides Case Management for Veterans directly from their home or mobile service.
  • Quality care by Registered Nurses who coordinate care one-on-one with Veterans who have chronic medical condition(s) such as heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Home Telehealth technology allows Veterans to report any of their readings necessary for monitoring blood pressure, heart rate, oxygenation level, blood glucose, temperature and weight.
  • Veterans can communicate with their VA health care team for education through in-home and mobile monitoring and messaging to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

Toxic exposure screening

Common conditions: War-related exposure, open burn pit exposure, airborne hazards exposure, Gulf War-related exposure, Gulf War Illness, Agent Orange exposure, radiation exposure, Camp Lejeune contaminated water exposure
We provide a quick screening to identify toxins you may have come in contact with during your military service. The screening takes 5 to 10 minutes. During the screening, we’ll ask you questions and document your responses in your medical record. Your answers will inform your VA health care team of any possible exposures. We’ll also connect you to more resources if you have any concerns.

If you've had ostomy surgery and are living with either a temporary or permanent stoma (a surgical opening to allow urine, feces, or body fluids to exit your body), we can help you manage the care of your stoma, make good product choices, and cope with the effects of ostomy surgery.
