September marks National Suicide Prevention and Recovery Month, and the last two years Atlanta VAHCS has sponsored a Suicide Prevention and Recovery Walk and Roll.  Participants walked and rode their bikes around Atlanta VAHCS’s Atlanta VA Clinic to promote awareness on Veterans suicide.

Joseph Lewis, a retired Army Veteran, said it’s about getting connected to mental health care and knowing what to do if you are experiencing a crisis and where to turn to.

“When we served in the military, we had to take care of our gear, take care of our troops.  Now we must take care of ourselves and reach out to the VA for help ,” Lewis said.

He added,  “The Atlanta VA center has a wide range of mental health resources when you walk through the door, but you have to take that first step and walk through the door.”
