Whole Health Offerings

At VA Pacific Islands Health Care System, we offer a variety of programs to support your health and wellness goals. Click on each topic below to see a description of current offerings.

Intro to Whole Health

This a virtual 60-minute class introduces you to the Whole Health approach to care and the additional classes and services available to veterans for well-being and complementary and integrative healthcare. Lead by our trained Whole Health coaches, partners, or peer facilitator. It introduces the concepts of whole health living; helps you identify what is important to you and how you may start on your whole health journey.

Taking Charge of My Life and Health

Taking Charge of My Life and Health is a virtual 6-session (1.5 hours) class led by trained Whole Health coaches, partners, or peer facilitator. These interactive sessions can help you focus on what you want out of your health and life by using tools such as the Circle of Health and the Personal Health Inventory to guide goal setting to increase your sense of well-being. The taking charge series gives you the opportunity to delve into each aspect of the Whole Health circle, begin to create an overarching personal health plan and learn mindfulness tools to reduce stress and improve well-being.

Healing Touch

Healing Touch is energy healing a holistic practice where certified healers work with you to help balance, harmonize, heal and remove blockages from the body. Several offerings that to go through include education, group sessions, and individualized sessions.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of East Asian Medicine that provides a holistic approach to veteran care. It uses thin sterile needles to stimulate specific acupoints along meridians (energy channels) to correct qi (lifeforce energy) imbalances, to release muscle adhesions, and to stimulate nerves and connective tissue in order to relieve discomfort for a variety of diseases and conditions. Acupuncture offers complementary methods to pain management, addresses acute and chronic health conditions, and promotes wellness.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a mind-body exercise combining slow-flowing intentional movements with breathing, awareness and visualization. Rooted in the Asian traditions of martial arts, Chinese medicine and philosophy, Tai Chi enhances relaxation, vitality, focus, posture, balance, strength, flexibility, and mood.

Yoga

Yoga is a mind and body practice, combining physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation to promote strength, balance, flexibility, and relaxation. Yoga originated in ancient India and is aimed to still the mind and bring harmony between mind and body. There are yoga classes to fit every Veteran's skill set including a Chair, Mat, or Yin class. Classes specific to amputees and SCI/D patients and a female veteran chair/standing pose class.

Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a type of therapy that focuses on breathing and self-regulator skills to support veterans with their physical, emotional, and mental health status. Includes self-regulation techniques to assist with being more present monitored through the use of biofeedback equipment.

Nutrition Classes

Nutrition classes offered with a variety of topics including but not limited to prediabetes, diabetes, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and more. These classes are designed to assist veterans with nutrition management.

Move!

MOVE! is a 16-week weight management and health promotion program designed to improve the lives of Veterans. MOVE!’s core ideas—encouraging healthy eating behavior, increasing physical activity, and promoting even small weight losses—are easy to follow and based on the latest in nutrition science. The program is led by the VA's dietitians, exercise scientists and behavioral health staff.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness 101 Group is a 6-week class that introduces a variety of mindfulness practices designed to focus on sensations and experiences in the present moment without judgment. Each class emphasizes a different experiential technique while incorporating the practice of both breath and body awareness. A regular practice of mindful awareness can help to reduce pain and stress levels and foster a greater sense of well-being.
