State Home Per Diem Program

VA's State Home program provides an economical alternative to constructing, maintaining and operating VA facilities for the provision of care to eligible Veterans. Under this program, the states provide quality care for eligible Veterans in three different types of programs: nursing home, domiciliary, and adult day health care.

Program Specific Contacts

To ensure personalized service we have identified, by office, names of staff you may need to contact such as State Home Per Diem, Geriatrics and Extended Care, and Grants Management on our Program Specific Contacts page.

Policy and Regulations

On the Policy and Regulations page you find current regulations, publications, laws, policies and handbooks relating to the State Home Per Diem Program.

Payment Rate Information

On the Payment Rate Information page you can view a list of current and past year rates for both the basic and higher per diem Veteran.

Construction Grant Program

VA participates in two grant-in-aid programs for States. VA may participate in up to 65 percent of the cost of construction or acquisition of state nursing homes or domiciliaries or for renovations to existing state homes. VA also provides per diem payments to states for the care of eligible Veterans in state homes.
