Joe Maletta
Mr. Joseph Maletta was selected on February 26, 2023, as the Executive Director, Acquisitions, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) within the Senior Executive Service (SES) following his successful tenure as Executive Director, Regional Procurement Office (RPO) East, VHA, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mr. Maletta will continue to embody our core values of integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence while he designs and directs activities within VHA’s critical acquisition area. Specifically, he is the subject matter expert and principal advisor to the Executive Director, AT&L, the Under Secretary for Health (USH), Deputy Under Secretary for Health (DUSH), Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Support (AUSH-S), key VHA senior officials, Veteran Integrated Service Network (VISN) Directors, and VA Medical Center (VAMC) Directors on Healthcare Acquisition. He will also manage our vital partnerships with other Federal agencies to find whole of government solutions to acquisition problems and opportunities to promulgate best Federal business practices in VA Medical Centers and Veteran Integrated Service Networks.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Maletta served as the Executive Director Regional Procurement Office (RPO) East. He managed a budget of over $4 billion and was responsible for contracting oversight of the East Coast, over 900 employees throughout seven Network Contracting Offices and the RPO East regional contracting staff. In 2018, he performed an interim detail as VHA’s Executive Director for Procurement and Logistics. His emphasis for developing contracting professionals was to always focus their learned craft in a way that maximized customer service for our VAMCs and VISNs.
Earlier, he was the Director of Contracting for the Naval Reactors Laboratory Field Office and responsible for cradle-to-grave contracting and subcontract oversight for approximately $3 billion annually including the consolidated Management and Operations contract for the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory and their associated sites.
Mr. Maletta’s previous experience includes service as the Field Representative for the Director, Naval Nuclear Propulsion for business oversight of nuclear component contracting and the naval nuclear industrial base, serving in the U.S. Navy’s Supply Corps as the Director of the Naval Reactors Material Office, and as an enlisted nuclear propulsion plant operator on the USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN-705).
