What We Do

Description/Purpose

The Geriatrics & Extended Care Data & Analysis Center (GECDAC) supports Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) programs and services by collecting and analyzing data related to aging and frail Veterans. GECDAC’s work provides GEC with evidence to make informed decisions on how to continue to offer high quality programs and services.

GECDAC supports GEC’s mission to advance quality care for aging and chronically ill Veterans, who receive care both from VA and outside the VA, by providing up-to-date data and program evaluations. To fully understand the GEC population, GECDAC provides evaluations that include data about VA, Medicare and Medicaid utilization to give a picture of care over time and across different locations. Findings are used to better understand barriers to care, unmet needs, and changes in care provided to Veterans receiving GEC services wherever they get their VA care.

GECDAC also works with and supports many VA research teams that are interested in topics related to healthcare and services for aging Veterans.

Vision Statement

GECDAC provides data-based information and analysis, and transforms delivery, improvement, and integration of GEC services and programs at all levels of VHA.

Mission Statement

GECDAC acquires, curates, and analyzes data from multiple sources to inform decision making at all levels of VHA – VACO, VISNs, VAMC leadership – regarding the delivery, quality, and cost of care of geriatric extended care programs. GECDAC’s data and analysis is integral for policy and operations to ensure Veterans receive patient-centered care and assure stakeholders that the services promote optimal quality of life and independence in the most cost-effective manner.
