Interferon Beta-1a (Avonex)

Interferon beta-1a (Avonex) is a medication administered by weekly intramuscular (IM) injections for the treatment of relapsing forms of MS. Interferon beta-1a is theorized to down-regulate proinflammatory cytokines, decrease major histocompatibility antigens and reduce T-lymphocyte passage across the blood brain barrier.
