Summary of Feedback for National Standards of Practice

After each proposed national standard of practice closes for public and employee comment after 60 days on the Federal Register and VA internal mechanisms, VA will post reports summarizing feedback received across all stakeholders, both within and outside VA.

Within a month after a proposed national standard of practice is closed for feedback, VA will post a national standard of practice Comment Count Report. This report provides data on how many VA employees, individuals from the public, state licensing boards, professional associations, and certification or registration bodies (as applicable) confirmed or provided feedback on the proposed VA national standard of practice. Every applicable state board receives a letter with information on the impact of the national standard of practice on the specific state, with an opportunity for the state board to respond. State licensing boards may email comments and feedback to va.nsp@va.gov outside the 60-day period for consideration.

VA is committed to excellence in clinical care and appreciates all input to ensure this commitment is continuously met. VA analyzes and considers all comments received, especially those that present evidence-based practice and alternatives that help VA meet its mission and goals, and that are better for Veterans and VA health care professionals. As necessary, VA will make appropriate revisions to the national standard of practice considering the comments.

Once a national standard of practice is finalized and published as an appendix to VHA Directive 1900, VA National Standards of Practice, VA will post the final Feedback Summary Report. This report will break down all the comments received, VA’s responses, and highlight any revisions made to the final national standard of practice written in VHA policy as a result of feedback received. Please note, the national standard of practice Feedback Summary Report may take several months to compile.

Thank you for your feedback and support in enabling VA health care professionals to provide the best care to the Nation’s Veterans.
