Deployment Operations

Disaster Emergency Medical Personnel System (DEMPS)

The Disaster Emergency Medical Personnel System (DEMPS) is the Veterans Health Administrations main deployment program for clinical and non-clinical staff to an emergency or disaster. The DEMPS Program may be used for an internal VA mission, as well as supporting a mission after a Presidential Disaster Declaration under the National Response Frameworks Emergency Support Function #8 (Public Health and Medical Services). For more detailed information about DEMPS, see our DEMPS Page.

Medical Emergency Radiological Response Team (MERRT)

The MERRT, under Executive Order (EO) 12657, provides medical support in response to a radiological release in the form of a specialized team of VHA health professionals that can rapidly deploy to provide both direct patient treatment and technical advice.

National Emergency Medical Response Teams (NEMRT)

NEMRT are predefined teams ready to deploy to assist VHA facilities or those affected by nationally declared disasters.
