Christopher W.
Christopher joined the Army at 18, eager to leave home and become independent. He served one combat deployment in Afghanistan. He served on a remote outpost, where he enjoyed taking photos of the landscape. After returning from deployment and separating from military service, Christopher struggled to find focus and reestablish his relationships. He is now working as a supervisor at his grandfather’s business and enjoys taking acting classes at the Community College of Philadelphia. He has also bought his first house.

![Yeah, but that right there is what a Humvee looks like when it gets hit by [an] IED. I lost a few friends through some of the [events in these] pictures. Pictures like this remind you of the nightmares of Afghanistan.](img/vets/vet_christopherw_humvee_ied.jpg)

![I didn't feel the same when I came back home. I wasn't the lovey-dovey person [that] I was when I left, and I wasn't taking no bull from nobody. I was too different [from] everybody else [at home]. I came back the real me; I was a man, a grown man. I left the boy and came back a grown-ass man.](img/vets/vet_christopherw_alcohol.jpg)
![A lot of those group therapy at the VA would be at 2 o’clock or something, or [only on] certain dates, or they’re totally full. I just don’t always have the time for everything; I’m going to school full-time and I’m running a business. Who the hell knows what my schedule looks like for [getting to therapy]?](img/vets/vet_christopherw_freequote.jpg)
