![The first deployment wasn’t bad. The second deployment we had casualties, KIAs [Killed in Action], WIAs [Wounded in Action]. I was on the recovery team. We were picking up body parts and putting them in the bags. It was rough. I have an alcohol problem. I’m not going to lie. It’s not glamorous. It’s not like it is in the movies. You feel like you’re drowning. You can’t come up for air. Alcohol makes me numb. For me, numb is as good as it gets sometimes. <br> - Michael B.](img/vets/making-transition-michael-booze.jpg)

![We went down to Maryland to help my friend who was packing up [to leave the military]. A lot of us military people live on air mattresses, live out of sea bags. There are a lot of homeless people now carrying around this sea bag. We’re going to be seeing a lot more of them. - Jose G.](img/vets/making-transition-jose-homeless.jpg)

![I don’t remember much you know, its cloudy, but after that I guess they got me the care I needed. I still get angry when I hear people saying that [suicide]’s a cowardly act. You don’t know what’s going through a person’s heart or mind and why they did that. – Raquel R.](img/vets/making-transition-freequote-raquel2.jpg)
