VA is changing electronic health information sharing options to improve care coordination and continuity of care

VHIE electronically shares the right information at the right time with participating community care providers in order to help Veterans and their health care team make the most informed treatment decisions. This instant exchange of information can dramatically improve patient safety, especially during emergency situations, we are changing health information sharing options to improve coordination and continuity of care for Veterans who seek care in the community.  Check back often for more details.

If you are a Veteran enrolled and receiving care at a VA medical center, you can “Connect Your Docs” through the Veterans Health Information Exchange (VHIE), formerly known as, the Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER) Program.  This program gives VA and participating community care providers secure access to certain parts of your electronic health record. This access reduces the need for Veterans and their families to request and carry paper medical records from one health care provider to another. It also provides other potential benefits to Veterans and their providers.

We encourage Veterans to sign up and/or renew the authorization by using eBenefits or by visiting their local Release of Information (ROI) Office.  Additional instructions on how to sign up can be found at
