Overview

VA encourages businesses to educate, hire, and train America’s Veterans. The following companies, government programs, and nonprofits have proven their commitment to helping Veterans transition from military to civilian employment. By promoting the hiring of Veterans and encouraging their entrepreneurial spirit, these companies and programs give Veterans opportunities to grow within established organizations or create their own small businesses. Some of these companies and programs are listed below.

AT&T Careers for Veterans

AT&T supports members of the military by employing active reservists and retired military personnel at every level of the company. AT&T employees include retired members of the military, active reservists, and members of the National Guard who have made the transition to civilian life and excel in every area of the company. AT&T's Operation Hand Salute is a groundbreaking national mentoring program for service-disabled Veteran CEOs helping them improve their business operations and enhance their ability to win corporate contracts. The program invites service-disabled Veteran business owners to attend an 11-week Entrepreneurial Leadership Program at John F. Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build Program provides housing solutions and volunteer/employment opportunities to U.S. Veterans, military Servicemembers, and their families. Habitat has successfully worked with Veteran-partner families and joined forces with Veteran Service Organizations to meet the needs of Veterans. Learn more

Operation Boots to Business and Reboot

Boots to Business (B2B) is an entrepreneurial education and training program offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as part of the Department of Defense Transition Assistance Program (TAP). The course provides an overview of entrepreneurship and applicable business ownership fundamentals. Active Duty Service members (including National Guard and Reserve), Veterans of all eras, and spouses are eligible to participate. Learn more

Prudential understands the value Veterans bring to the workforce, including practiced leadership skills, commitment, discipline, ability to perform under extremely stressful situations, and a solid work ethic. Veterans Enterprise Training & Services Group (VETS Group)

VETS Group, a nonprofit, community-based organization provides a holistic program for Veterans and their families to achieve economic empowerment through education, entrepreneurship, and employment. VETS Group offers training in Federal procurement, small business development, education in financial literacy, credit repair and identity theft, and is now in the process of implementing an initiative to identify more procurement opportunities for Veterans in the private-sector. Partnerships are being formed with large corporate enterprises to offer Veterans employment opportunities, business education, mentoring, technical assistance, growth capital, and access to international markets. VetNet: The Career Resource of Tomorrow

Transitioning from military to civilian life presents a unique set of challenges. To make things easier and provide structure, the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University (IVMF)—along with Hire Heroes USA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes initiative—created VetNet, a single place to start. VetNet is designed to be a free, one-stop shop for the Veteran and military family communities as they transition to the civilian workforce. The online resource includes innovative networking tools, career training, job opportunities, and entrepreneurship classes—all offered online and at absolutely no cost to participants. Learn more

Walmart: Welcome Home Commitment

Walmart offers a job to any honorably discharged Veteran within his or her first 12 months off active duty through its Welcome Home Commitment. Walmart believes that hiring a Veteran can be one of the best decisions a company can make. They're quick learners, and they're team players.
