Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiative

Welcome Message

The Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives (CFOI) is an integral staff office of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of the Secretary charged with the mission is to engage, inform and educate faith-based, nonprofit and community/neighborhood organizations in VA programs to better serve the needs of Veterans, their families, Survivors, caregivers and other beneficiaries.

VA CFOI achieves our mission by developing and cultivating partnerships with organizations which already provide services to Veterans, who walk through their doors on a daily basis. The Center for Faith-based and Community Initiatives was established on June 1, 2004, by Executive Order 13342 and we are excited to celebrate our 13th anniversary with your community! We need your organizations help to make this year a success by assisting us reach the 24.4 million Veterans across the country.

Here are VA CFOI 2017 – 2018 Strategic priorities for Faith-based, Nonprofit and Community Organizations (FBCOs):

  • Provide FBCOs with tools and resources about VA programs and services.
  • Disseminate to FBCOs comprehensive community-based Veteran suicide prevention resources.
  • Connect FBCOs with housing and VA services for homeless Veterans.
  • Connect FBCOs with VA program and services to promote hope, help and resilience for Veterans experiencing mental health concerns and/or condition.

We recognize each community has different needs; therefore, we encourage your organization to contact VA CFOI directly to discuss ways we can efficiently and effectively reach the Veterans in your community. VA CFOI welcomes the opportunity to conduct workshops, speak at conferences/events and provide VA resources, etc., in order to equip your organizations with information about VA benefits and programs. It is our goal to reach every Veteran across this nation and we have no doubt VA CFoi can do it with your help!

VA CFOI wants to hear about all the good work and stories your organization is doing in the community to support Veterans to be featured on our webpage. Also, please subscribe to our webpage to start receiving VA CFOI news and upcoming events.
