What’s New

December 11, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Veteran's Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) participants using U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey data. Food security is an important part of a Veterans' wellbeing. About 6% of SNAP households have a Veteran. Regardless of race, marital status, education, and income, Veteran households participate in SNAP less than non-Veteran households.

December 10, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Veterans Employment 2000 to 2013, which highlights Veteran employment statistics from 2000 to 2013. Details include presentation of rates by gender, age, and period of service.

November 24, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released VA Historical Annual Reports, which detail services provided by the Department for Fiscal Years 1918 to 1979, and 1996-1997. Benefits, Healthcare, and Burial/Memorial services are included. The Reports also describe the topics of administration and management within VA, ranging from data on personnel to information on construction projects. Statistical tables for a variety of subjects are also included.

November 7, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released The 2010 National Survey of Veterans (NSV) public data file in Excel format. The file contains results of the data collection such as Veterans' demographic and socio-economic characteristics and identifies VA benefits and services most used by Veterans. The public data file also includes weight information to help users conduct independent data analysis. Additionally, a codebook and a listing of variables are also available separately.

October 24, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Beneficiaries who Received Education Benefits in Fiscal Year 2013. The tables show the number of education program beneficiaries by program type at the national level and for all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Phillipines.

October 8, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Disability Compensation and Patient Expenditures: FY2000 to FY2013. This report contains FY2000 through FY2013 data on disability compensation expenditures and recipients and on VA healthcare system patients and patient expenditures.

October 8, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released VA Facilities by Congressional District (FY2011): Overview. Maps are organized by state and depict the Veteran population using VetPop2011 data as of 9/30/2013 and VA facilities using Veteran Affairs Site Tracking (VAST) data as of FY14Q1.

October 3, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released VA Facilities by State and VA Facilities by Congresssional District These reports reflect a list of VA Facilities as of December 31, 2013 and the corresponding Representative's Districts for the 113th Congress.

October 1, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released The Veteran Population Projection 2014, (VetPop2014). VetPop2014 is an actuarial projection model developed by the Office of the Actuary (OACT) for Veteran population projection from Fiscal Year FY2014 to FY2043. Using the best available Veteran data by the end of FY2013, VetPop2014 provides living Veteran counts by key demographic characteristics such as age, gender, period of service, and race/ethnicity at various geographic levels. September 24, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Women Veteran Profile: 2012 Women Veterans Profile 2012 uses 2012 data from the 2012 American Community Survey to compare the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of women Veterans and women non-Veterans.

September 24, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Minority Veterans: 2012 Minority Veterans Profile 2012 uses data from the 2012 American Community Survey to compare the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of minority Veterans and minority non-Veterans.

September 22, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Service-connected Disabled Veterans by Disability Rating Group: FY1986 to FY2013. This table shows the number of Veterans receiving Disability Compensation by combined disability rating.

August 28, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Trends in the Utilization of VA Programs and Services. The report contains trends of Veteran patients, healthcare expenditures, disability compensation and recipients, service-connected disabilities, and healthcare enrollees and outpatient visits over a multiple-year timeframe.

August 28, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Employment of Veterans in the Federal Executive Branch. The Employment of Veterans in the Federal Executive Branch document is produced annually by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to provide useful data on the employment of Veterans within the Federal Executive Branch. In FY 2012, the number of Veterans on board was approximately 612,000 of the 2,058,000 total of employees and Veterans respresented 29.7 percent of the workforce. In FY 2009, approximately 512,000 out of the 1,983,000 employees, or 25.8 percent of the workforce, were Veterans; this is approximately a 4 percentage-point increase in 3 years. The quick-facts chart we produced from this data focuses on new Veteran hires and on Veterans by occupation.

July 30, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released the FY 2012 Profile of Unique Veteran Users The report provides demographic, socio-economic, and utilization trends of Veterans who used at least one VA benefit or service each year between FY 2005 and FY 2012. It also includes a comparison of Veterans who used VA benefits to Veterans who did not use VA benefits.

This table shows the average expenditures per patient in each of the VA healthcare enrollment priority groups from 2000 - 2013. Data for Veterans and Non-Veterans are presented.

June 13, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released the FY 2013 Disability Compensation and Pension Recipients by County Report (C&P by County). The report provides country-level estimates of the number of Veterans who received VA Disability Compensation or Pension benefits during FY 2013. It includes the Veterans' total disability rating, age group, and gender. Between FY 2012 and FY 2013, the number of Veterans receiving Disability Compensation has increased by about 6 percent to 3.7 million. The number of Veterans recieving Disability Pension benefits has decreased by 3 percent to about 305,000.

May 22, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released tables featuring updated data from the National Cemetery Administration on interments Veteran Interments, Veteran and Non-Veteran Interments and Veteran, Non-Veteran, and Dependent Interments. Between FY2012 and FY2013, veteran interments at national cemeteries increased by approximately 5 percent to nearly 82,000. Combined veteran and non-veteran interments at national cemeteries totaled about 125,000 in FY2013. There were approximately 157,000 veteran, non-veteran and dependent interments at national and state cemeteries that same year.

April 30, 2014, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released the Geographic Distribution of VA Expenditures Report (GDX).  This report details VA expenditures at the state, county, and Congressional District level.  It includes categories such as Compensation and Pension, Construction, Insurance, and Medical Care.  Veteran population estimates and the number of unique patients who used VA health care services are also available.

March 18, 2014, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released its series of maps updated to reflect 2013 Veteran population estimates.  These maps show the number of Veterans who live in each state; state Veteran population change; Veteran population by VISN, Congressional District, county, 65 years and older, and under 25 years old; and WWII Veterans by state.

March 12, 2014, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Summary of Veterans Benefits: FY2000 to FY2012 and Trends in Veterans with a Service-Connected Disability:  1985 to 2012.  The summary report presents the number of disability compensation and pension recipients, education beneficiaries, home loans guaranteed, life insurance policies, and vocational rehabilitation and employment recipients.  Between 2011 and 2012, home loans guaranteed increased by more than 50 percent.  The trends report provides information on the number of Veterans with service-connected disabilities, including by disability rating, and the amount of cash payments to these Veterans.

January 10, 2014, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Education Program Beneficiaries.  VA education programs provide Veterans and other qualified beneficiaries with educational resources to supplement opportunities missed due to military service.  This analysis shows that twenty-three states account for 80% of VBA beneficiaries workload and that there was a 42% increase in VBA beneficiaries workload from 2009 to 2010 due in part with the Post-9/11 GI Bill Program being fully enacted.

November 8, 2013, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Disability Compensation and Patient Expenditures, Trends in Utilization of Veterans Benefits and Service-connected Disabled Veterans by Disability Rating Group.  The reports use data from the Veterans Benefits Administration to compare Veteran-benefit-related information by year.

June 25, 2013, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Profile of Minority Veterans:  2011.  The report uses data from the 2011 American Community Survey to compare the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of minority Veterans and minority non_Veterans.

April 19, 2013, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released Veteran Population Projections:  FY2010 to FY2040.  The projections in this report summarize some of the typical demographic characteristics of the Veteran population.

March 14, 2013, Employment of Veterans in the Federal Government.  These quick facts use data from the 2011 Employment of Veterans in the Federal Executive Branch to compare Veteran employment in the Federal Government by agency, occupation, and level of disability.  Three of the four charts focus on new hires.

March 12, 2013, Profile of Veterans 2011.  This report uses data from the 2011 American Community Survey.

February 22, 2013 -Women Veterans.  This report uses data from the 2011 American Community Survey to compare the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of Veterans and non-Veterans.  It also explores the differences between male Veterans and female Veterans.
