The Institute for Learning, Education and Development (ILEAD) has officially launched in October 2022 as a new and enhanced education program office in VHA. ILEAD was formed through a reorganization of the legacy VHA Employee Education System (EES) and legacy Healthcare Leadership Talent Institute (HLTI) and resides within the Office of Human Capital Management.

A new comprehensive ILEAD site will be coming soon to replace this legacy EES website as well as the HLTI website.

The Employee Education System (EES) provides dynamic learning to develop a high-performance VA workforce and make sure over 9 million Veterans receive safe, high-quality health care from committed, expert VA employees, from clinicians to administrative staff. EES training is also made available for free to community health care providers to share a common knowledge of best practices related to Veteran care.

EES partners with VA offices, Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs) and medical facilities to provide workforce education and training to improve outcomes in Veteran care, health care operations and administration using innovative and emerging learning platforms and technology. Every day, EES provides VA staff with essential skills that improve Veteran care and enhance health care leadership, investing in employees and increasing Veterans’ access to integrated, high-quality health care. EES also supports VA with mission-critical training and education development and deployment during important initiatives and crises, such as the MISSION Act and the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, EES is the Nation’s largest single provider of accredited learning, offering over 20 major health care accreditations.

From their first day and across the life cycle of their careers with VA, employees benefit from EES-developed learning programs and products that help them:

  • Onboard and orient to the organization
  • Learn the most effective means to care for a unique Veteran patient population
  • Maintain licenses and certifications through high-quality accredited content
  • Acquire skills to advance into new roles
  • Empower themselves and others as transformation change-agents
  • Develop the supervisory and leadership abilities to lead VA into the future
  • Access state-of-the-art education and training solutions, including micro-learning, gaming, simulated learning and many others

Are you a community health care provider serving Veteran patients?
VHA TRAIN is a comprehensive catalog of public health learning products that allows EES to share valuable, accredited training on Veteran issues with public health care providers at no cost to them. The EES-developed learning programs found in VHA TRAIN support the professional development needs of public health and health care providers, with a focus on Veteran patient care.

All EES-developed courses offered internally and on VHA TRAIN undergo a robust rating analysis and are consistently updated and improved to provide the best possible learning to staff treating Veterans. EES maintains a complete course catalog of all content currently on VHA TRAIN, which can be sorted by heath topic and is updated monthly.
