For the past 5 years, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employees across the Nation have been part of a bold shift from a health care system primarily focused on disease management to one focused on the physical, emotional, and social well-being of the whole person. We call this the whole health approach. VA is uniquely positioned to provide this new approach and we are pleased to share with you what it can mean for Veterans and those who serve Veterans.
The whole health approach puts Veterans, not their symptoms, at the center of their health care. This personalized, proactive, patient-driven strategy considers the full range of physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental influences in their lives. We believe it best supports our primary mission to “honor America’s Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being.”
As you read these reports, notice the impact whole health is having on Veterans and health care providers across the country as they partner to improve the overall well-being of Veterans. You will hear from Alex who overcame addiction and homelessness, Judy who practiced whole health to battle issues with depression, as well as many others who have taken control of their health so they can achieve what matters most to them in their lives. We are honored to share these very personal experiences with you along with other information on ways you can participate in VA’s whole health approach.
