Basic Mediation Skills Training
This course provides participants with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to be neutral, third party mediators. The participants learn about mediation/co-mediation and its usefulness as a problem solving technique; they also are taught how to identify and practice the steps of the mediation process, draft a written settlement and understand mediator standards of conduct.

Conflict Management
This three day training course is designed to provide Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) senior executives, supervisors, union officials, and employees with greater ability to effectively and constructively manage conflict within the VA. The goal of the course is to manage conflict at the lowest level possible, and at the earliest opportunity to resolve workplace disputes and prevent administrative complaints using mediation. Course learning objectives are designed to equip participants with the knowledge and basic skills to:

• Analyze conflicts, disputes, and EEO complaints arising in the Federal workplace.
• Develop strategies for overcoming obstacles to effective conflict management, dispute, and complaint resolution.
• Practice a range of communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Differentiate between integrative and distributive approaches to workplace conflict, disputes, and complaints.
• Experience the dynamics of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) with emphasis on facilitative and evaluative mediation techniques.
• Recognize the importance of preparation in order to effectively use ADR processes such as mediation.
