Henry Wyneken

Henry Wyneken, PhD

Statistician, RECOVER Center, Minneapolis VA Health Care System
Statistician, Minneapolis VA Health Care System

Henry grew up in the Twin Cities and studied statistics and economics at the University of Chicago. He continued his studies in statistics at the University of Minnesota, where he received his PhD. He has applied his training in different fields – starting in agriculture, moving into biosafety research and now supporting RECOVER’s research to improve participation in Veterans. He enjoys working with RECOVER staff. Every project is unique. His main contribution to any project is to understand what the researcher is trying to show, and how that connects to the numbers we will collect during the project. The numbers could come from different sources – for example they could be from take-home survey data or from wearable devices. It is always better to understand what kinds of graphs, tables or statistical tests are meaningful before data collection begins. This gives us the best chance at producing evidence that is highly relevant and credible. Finally, he works with RECOVER staff to execute the analysis of the data after it has been collected. He appreciates the many opportunities that RECOVER provides to learn about how to better collect and analyze data in ways that will ultimately support Veterans.
